on Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince
finished. two days. finished reading harry potter book 6 last monday. two days is pretty long for the book. and no, i didn’t lose sleep over it. i was still able to sleep and still able to eat. hoping to finish it in a day but then i had chores on the first day of reading it. anyway, i pretty much liked this one better than HP:OotP. i hated the angsty!Harry from HP:OotP. good that he’s less angsty right now. but still it isn’t HP:PoA or even HP:GoF for me. those two are still at the top of my HP book list with HP:PoA leading. ^^ sometimes though i wish rowling would just go back to harry potter being a children’s book… the harry potter that i love. right now, i can’t tell if these past two books are still under the children’s book category.
now on to the part why i would really like to kill rowling. ¬.¬ rowling, oh, rowling. why should you kill two of my favorite characters in two consecutive books? weren’t you satisfied with just killing my most favorite character, sirius, back in HP:OotP? why should you go and kill dumbledore as well? okay, okay. i know it was relevant to the story that dumbledore be killed. it was actually written even from the start of the book. so who you’re planning on killing next, eh? ron? hermione? hagrid? fred and george? or maybe the whole weasleys so that harry will be now really alone in this world. now that that rant was out of my system, i’ll still look forward to book 7. ^^; i’m preparing myself for the fact that anybody could die in that book. but still hoping that none of my fave characters though.
on other parts of the book, i like that rowling has pretty much established the background and the personality of tom riddle. i mean, the reason why he’s “evil”, the family history, voldemort’s life at the orphanage prior to going to hogwarts and his life after hogswart. he’s no longer just a character that’s just plain evil. though yeah, he is still evil but there’s facts supporting his evilness… >< i'm messing this one up. ^^; i love those time travels in this one.
the draco going loco could have been played better. i love draco. it’s nice to see him being a different draco. the one with moaning myrtle. the one with dumbledore at the tower. it shows you a different side of him. the cowering, frightened and demented draco. not just the arrogant and snobbish one. buuuut. i would have loved to see more of him similar to those scenes. it’s like he’s almost on the brink and then rowling snatches everything back and you’re left with… “so what happened to draco?”
now on to that snape, dumbledore and death stuff at the end of the book… i have no idea if rowling is trying to get people to hate snape because he killed dumbledore but for me even if i’m not a very very very big fan of snape (though i am still a fan) isn’t it a lil bit obvious that snape still hasn’t gone turned anakin? i mean, yes, he killed dumbledore with the avada kedavra. but i think it was all part of a big plan of dumbledore. from the start, dumbledore knew that snape had an unbreakable vow with narcissa concerning draco. he knows that the death eaters would be at hogwarts and that he would die in the end. the fact that he kept saying to harry that his life isn’t close to being as important as harry’s gives us a hint that he’ll be dying and giving up his life by the book’s end. dumbledore’s talk to draco leads me to believe that draco would have a bigger role in the next book. *crosses her fingers and hopes* oh, and dumbledore’s pleading to snape… i think that’s him pleading not for his life but for snape to be able to kill him and keep up his charade with the death eaters. and if snape’s evil, he had a chance to kill harry but he didn’t. he just kept on deflecting the spells that harry’s sending him. so yeah. snape’s still with the order. well, that’s my random theory.
now for book 7, i want to believe that draco will play a bigger part in it and that’s one of the reasons why dumbledore tried to save him (draco) by sacrificing himself. so please, rowling, give him a bigger role next book. same goes for snape because i sooo want to know why dumbledore trusted him with his life. oh and don’t forget the ron x hermione thing… even if it’s just a peek.
