on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Got my copy at 7 in the morning last Saturday. Never expecting the bookstore to be full of people since the last time when I grabbed HBP I was the only one in the bookstore at 7am, I went only on my house clothes. XD But then I waited in line for 15 minutes before I finally have the book at my hands. They gave a free bookmark, sticker and cookies. The sticker and bookmark are HP related... The cookies, not. X_X
Finished the book in two days. Well, technically, it's two reading days since I wasn't able to read the whole day yesterday and just stayed up the night til 5 in the morning to finish it. But I disgress. The book was great. It might be my third favorite book in the series. First would be PoA, followed by GoF and then more than likely, DH. I liked how Rowling ended the book. It has closure, meaning: "Finally, there really won't be any other Harry Potter books!" Don't get me wrong because I really love the books but if this drags on, it might loose its brilliance for me. Now, I wonder what her next series will be and if it'll be as big as how Harry Potter is right now. I don't know, HP has a big cult following that it could spill into her next series *shrugs* But we'll see.
I know I missed a lot more but I'm tired. My head aches either because of too much sweet, too much DS, too litte sleep or too much Potter. Take your pick. ^^;
on Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
Watched Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End last night. Absolutely love it. For me it's the best 2007 summer movie. Even better than Spider-man 3 and Shrek the Third. Maybe because I'm biased and I'm a Pirates fan, but I don't care since I really absolutely love it. I could rewatch it over and over again and never get tired of it. And it'll definitely be in my DVD-to-buy list. Well, seriously, if you want to understand what the heck the characters are saying, then you really have to repeat it. XD I mean, throughout the movie, even though I enjoyed it, it was pretty hard deciphering 80% of what they were saying. Tee hee hee. So, yeah, I'll definitely rewatch it.
Spoilers beware
It's definitely a Bruckheimer movie with all those explosions and great fight scenes and that adds to my love for the movie. But what definitely made me love the movie (and all the other Pirates movies for that matter) is of course Captain Jack Sparrow. Who wouldn't love that drunken swagger (though there really is less of that and his rum drinking in this one..), those expressive reactions, those quotable quotes ("That makes you a chartman!") and that witty brain that makes him Jack Sparrow! Actually, the first few scenes were just so-so for me. Not as exciting as when Sparrow's in the scene. XD
As for the other characters, even if they gave a big role to Elizabeth Swann, it didn't really made me love her more. I still preferred her in the first movie. I can't even remember what her role was in the second one except for the very last scene. As for Will Turner, I like him, but my love for him increased more when he turned pirate at the last few scenes and he was now commanding a ship. Barbossa and Davey Jones are definitely love for me even from the previous films. Who wouldn't love Geoffrey Rush and Bill Nighy's characters, anyway. What pretty much shook me was why did they have to kill Norrington. I love him as much as I love Will, Barbossa and Jones. But noooo, they just have to stab him. TT___TT
Plotwise, a lot of things are happening left and right. There's the East India Company, Davey Jones, Jack and Barbossa, and Swann and Turner. It could be confusing if you don't know how to follow what's currently happening, who's "betraying" who. But if you know how Jack's mind works (think of the "leverage" talk on the CotBP) it's pretty easy to grasp what's their plan.
Anyway, though they say that this might be the last Pirates movies, I don't want to believe that it is. Seriously, they could do so much more with what happened. I mean, technically, they haven't defeated Calypso yet so that could be their next plot. Plus, they could always try and rescue Will from his "curse" so he could live happily ever after with Elizabeth and Young Will. And there's Jack's quest for immortality and the Fountain of Youth. Plus he doesn't have the Black Pearl with him again. Though they did tie the loose ends they left at DMC, AWE's pretty much open ended too. So a fourth one in the franchise wouldn't be that bad. ^^,
As a last note, as with the previous two Pirates movies, watch till the credit ends. Because like the other two, there's less than a minute coda at the end involving Will, Elizabeth and their kid. Since the movie screening at the cinema where we watched finished at 1am, people just filed out of the theater not even bothering to finish the credits. I'm glad that I wasn't one of them :D So yeah, do finish the credits.
