One of the movies that I was really looking forward to ever since I heard that they were going to make another Indiana Jones movie. I’m a big fan of the original trilogy especially the third one, The Last Crusade. I knew I was gonna miss Sean Connery when I learned that he won’t reprise his role as Henry Jones, Sr. At first I was skeptic wondering if Harrison Ford would still be able to do a few running around the set even at his old age. And then I was able to see an early review citing this movie to be the Indiana Jones movie that you wouldn’t want to watch. After that, I closed my ears to reviews bashing the movies. And I’m glad I did. Because now that I have watched the movie, it made me curious if me and the critics watched the same movie. Because even with the shortcomings, this movie still was fun. No it isn’t THE 2008 summer movie but it was still fun.

For one, it was cool to see Spielberg incorporate some of the Indiana Jones trademark into the film. The Paramount logo, the flight superimposed over a map, some locations that looks like studio sets, the music. I would have loved it better though if there were more usage of whips, more snakes (like a roomful!), more stunts done by Ford (which I know is pretty improbable given his age) and definitely more Mutt love. And less National Treasure and ET/alien references. It being the epitome and the standard of the archaeological/adventure type story, I would have loved not seeing that slanting platform scene. Maybe they should have used other stuff. This is Indiana Jones so they should have brought something new. Also, even though there really are crystal skulls, I wish that Spielberg and Lucas just stayed away from the extraterrestrial life forms. There are other theories like that of Atlantis or the Aztecs being sculptors which they could have used. But then I know the latter one would prove boring a plot. XD And maybe they’re keeping Atlantis for future Indiana Jones movie plot. But I’m definitely happy that for the meantime, Indy didn’t pass on the torch to Mutt. I definitely want to see more Indy adventures. Plus, I have no idea if Mutt Williams and the Search for the Lost Colony (or insert whatever adventure you want) would work since Mutt technically isn’t an archaeologist or even a historian.
